Getting
Started - Hosting With Fyrewire Web hosting
Overview
You
may have some experience dealing with other hosting companies and
may have an idea of what you need to do to get going. Or this is
your first adventure into hosting your website.
We
do some things a bit different here at Fyrewire Web hosting and
this guide below will help you get the most out of your hosting
account.
First
Things First
After
you signup you will receive notification that your signup process
was a success. You must reply to this email to confirm your email
address.
A
little while later (up to 4 to 8 hours max) you will receive a "Welcome"
email with all your information regarding your account. Please
print out this email for future reference, this is very important.
Once you receive this 2nd email, you may begin uploading your website
immediately. If you have not received your welcome email within
8 hours, please send us an email enquiry.
Name
Servers
What
are Name Servers and what do I need to do? Name Servers are names
for the server that helps to point your domain to the correct server.
If you already registered your domain, then you need to login to
your registrar where you registered your domain and modify the Name
Server information. Some registrars call it "Modify DNS"
or "Modify Delegation" or plainly, "Name Server Information."
All you need to do is change the name servers already listed to
the ones that you receive in your email. Most likely ns1.fyrewire.com
and ns2.fyrewire.com.
After
you modify the records, it takes 24-48 hours for the domain to propagate.
This means it takes that much time for the internet databases to
be updated and recognize the change. Until then you can use the
ip link provided in your email to preview your site. (you can also
use ip to upload your site before your domain name has resolved)
If
you run into trouble with this procedure or don't understand something,
please don't hesitate to let us know. We are here to help you get
the most from your hosting experience. (Best channel to reach us
is through the support desk in the account administrator)
cPanel
Control Panel
When
you signup your welcome email will provide you with information
with link and login to your cPanel Control Panel.
To
minimize loss of email or site downtime, we recommend setting up
email accounts in your control panel before modifying the name servers.
This is so when the propagation takes place, your email will already
have a place to go.
Uploading
Your Site
You
will need an FTP program to upload your website to our server. You
can also use the file manager in the site administrator to upload
if you do not have access to an FTP program. Web editors such as
Dreamweaver, Golive or FrontPage can also be used to upload your
site.
Upload
your HTML files to the public_html folder.
Upload
your perl and cgi scripts to the cgi-bin inside your public_html
folder
Most
important thing is when you connect to the server using whatever
method, you will find some folders, public_html, public_ftp and
a few others depending on the feature of your package. Do not
delete these folders. If your ftp program asks for directory
or remote directory, just put public_html as that is the directory
you want your files to be uploaded to.
information will be provided in the welcome email.

Getting
Help
Before
requesting help, gather as much information related to the problem
as you can as this will decrease the time it will take for us to
provide a answer/solution.
Most
effective way to getting help is to submit a ticket in the support
desk of your account administrator. Log in at www.fyrewire.com/clogin.php
to access the support desk.
You
can send emails to support@fyrewire.com, but it is hard for us to
guarantee that your emails will always get the attention they need.
Our email system is not organized like the support desk. We still
manage to keep on top of issues, but issues can get lost and hard
to track down at later dates.
For
emergencies, you may contact us via instant messenger for one on
one assistance. You can find our usernames on our contact page.
If
you have any questions, please don't hesitate to let us know.
